The morality of the law, whatever it orders, should be found in its equality, in the fact that any of us can reflect in it as equal to any other. “The law is the same for everybody” isn’t only an evident necessity, let’s say, of “just distributions of rights”. It is also the basic condition for our dignity as human beings. I respect the common lawbecause you will also respect it and so we will be both on the same level before the law and each of us before the other. We will be able to look one another loyally, right into the eyes, because there will not be the stronger and the weaker, the smarter and the gullier,the snake and the dove, but only loyal citizens of the republic of the laws.
